It’s a famous saying that a person should always work in a profession that he loves. This way he would never have to work for a single day in his life. But how many of us actually accomplish such a feat of strength regarding the most crucial aspect of our lives? |
Moreover, not everyone decides to work in a profession for the sake of love, many simply make choices based on monetary advantage. When it comes to graphic design, one has a variety of reasons to become a graphic designer, one of which is to become rich and wealthy. |
What we tend to forget sometimes is that with great creativity and forbearance, one can become successful in just about any profession. If you take care of the freelance design issues, nothing can stop you from becoming a legendary graphic designer, having both love and money in his chosen profession. |
Design for Money |
Many people set a priority to earn more and more money at the start of their career. They are more driven by numbers than passion. Or let’s say that they don’t bother to use any more efforts than necessary to finish a project and get their paycheck. |
• Focus on Profit and Loss |
When a designer is more focused on making money, he tends to neglect his strength and weaknesses as a designer and keeps on accepting projects whether he personally likes them or not, whether he has enough time to work on them or not. This compromises the quality of his work but he is generally more concerned with getting done with his projects than doing justice to his design. |
• Dedication according to money |
As they accumulate more and more design projects, they have to finish each by a deadline for which they aren’t left with much time. The time spent on each project is directly proportional to the amount being paid by the client. This severely damages their progress on designs that pay less but may prove to be an asset for their portfolio in the long run. |
• Money Passion |
Since the projects are accepted without much consideration to anything other than money, the designer is usually over-loaded with work and has no time to unwind with his friends or family. Their personal life is affected because they don’t have the heart to refuse work (of any standard) when it comes their way. |
Design for Love |
If you do something because you love it or have a deep passion for it, it gives you a sense of ease and accomplishment possibly every single day. |
• Focus on Creativity |
When you have a passion to design something, you take inspiration from other people but do not necessarily follow in their footsteps. You do not copy other designers and bring your own crazy genius to impress the world. Even when you don’t have an abundance of money, you are mostly happy and satisfied with your work because you focus on establishing reputation by improving your portfolio and do not compromise on your work for the sake of big bucks. |
• Value Their Design |
Every relationship requires some kind of a compromise. But when a designer develops a deep sense of relationship with his profession, it helps him stay stronger against any unnecessary interference in their projects. Suggestions are welcome but sometimes they simply have to put their feet down and remind the client who is the designer. |
• Design Passion |
These designers may also be guilty of neglecting their loved ones, or even themselves, but at least when you see their work; you instantly know that it was all worth it. Their work speaks for itself. When these designers take up a project, they try to give their best in terms of the time and effort put into their work. Their decisions to accept or decline an offer are ruled by passion - not money. |
Conclusion: |
So now that we know of the two driving factors in a designer’s life, which factor drives you more as a designer – money or passion? |
I’ve always loved designing and motivated to design even if its not for bucks because its my portfolio and integrity that I’m building. I feel satisfy when i design and loved the output than to do some work that is not my style simply because of some bucks (personal).
