Designs for Winter Olympics 2014

Russia is going to host the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics which are the 22nd Olympics competitions being held. The date chosen for the winter games is 7th February, 2014 till 23rd February 2014. There would be Ninety eight events in which participants will take part. The Sochi Organizing Committee (SOC) is responsible for managing this great event of Paralympics and Olympic games.

It was on 4th July 2007 in the 119th IOC conference Guatemala when Sochi was selected as the city to host Olympic events. Winter sports are being held for the first time in Russian Federation. Before this, Summer Olympics were held in 1980 in Moscow.

A serious thought has been given about the preparations for the Olympic game. Construction of venues, arranging power and telecommunications are just of the most important things to take care of before the game event. The Committee has decided to build an Olympic Park by the coast Black Sea. There would be new venues in Krasnaya Polyana as well.  There is a variety of games that will be held at event. For every sport there are enormous preparations being done including their venue, arrangements etc.

What I came across were some different designs of sports which will be played. They have been made out of different colors and the designs have wintery pictures making it beautiful. Below is the list of them. Hope you like them.

• Alpine Skiing

Let us start by Alpine Skiing symbol. Its theme is red but there are other colors merged in the design like orange and green. Green color is representing the greenery where as orange are representing flakes of snow.

Rusa Khutor is the place where Alpine Skiing would be done in Sochi Winter Olympic Games of 2014. This race will be of 20 km in length. There are various versions of this skiing like the slalom, which is skiing in between poles; the downhill, which is the longest route and single run is done by each skier; the supercombined and in which two skiing in a day.

• Biathlon

The northern Europeans are the influencers of this race. They practiced hunting and since then we can trace the origins of this sport.

Sochi has unique design for this sport. Its theme is entirely green with traces of orange in flakes, denoting wintery sports. The designer has also used different shades of green to make it look distinguishable. There are various patterns on the design as well which shows a person holding ski poles. The place where this race will be held is Laura Cross-country Ski & Biathlon Center.

• Bobsleigh

A sled is used to descend downwards on a mountain slope in this sport called Bobsleigh. There are two man sleds and four man sleds used in the sport competition.

This design is entirely amazing. It features four round balls representing heads of the maximum people that can ride on sled. The sled is design u-shaped tilted to the left showing it coming down the slope. The color is again green with usage of darker shades in some patterns. For this purpose a Sliding Center “Sanki” has been built for these winter games 2014.

• Cross-Country Skiing

This is perhaps the most common skiing type of all. In the Sochi Winter Sports event, there will be 12 events held for Cross-Country Skiing. The design theme is in fiery red and orange. It also has black color which no other sport design has used so much. The red color is beautifully matched with green and giving look of red cherries.

• Curling

This game is played between teams who have to move the stone to a target. It is played on ice and there are four players in each team. The Center of circle is where the stones have to be moved. In the game, there brooms are used to remove the ice surface which is in front of the stone.

The design features a person running for the stone, leaning towards it. The design colors are magical. Different shades of blue have been used in patterns and flowers. There are also traces of red, green and yellow in the design.

• Figure skating

If we talk about the oldest sport of winter Olympics, then it is figure skating. In it, different styles of ice skating are performed by men and women including ice dancing and skating. The design again has different shades of blue in it. This time the theme is light blue, being the dominant color this picture. A person is seen on skates, with one leg up in the air. The hands are stretched out just like done in the ice dancing.

• Freestyle

Freestyle as the name says is a combination of three events which are held in the Olympics session. One is the Olympic aerial competition in which there are two jumps performed by the player. Then there is Mogul in which the racers have to ski from different bumps and moguls performing tricks and jumps.

The design pictures the freestyle skier in the air upright. Both the skies are pointing upwards to the right. The racer has hands stretched out which is the normal body posture while skiing. Coming to the colors, it is mostly orange including shades of green, maroon, red etc.

• Nordic Combined

This is a combined sporting race though there are individual contests held as well. In the combined, players are required to do one ski jump and complete a cross country race of 10 km. The skies used in Alpine racing are broader but the ones used in Nordic racing are narrower and even lighter. The poles for skies are longer too. The design of this sport has two sportsmen competing hardly with each other. One is in the air with skies a little up. The other is moving swiftly in the snow holding poles. Purple color is used for the design. Also, there are square boxes and leaf like patterns filled with different colors.

So, how much do you love sports logos and illustration designs in general? Which sports will you be following and favoring in the upcoming Winter Olympics of 2014? Leave us you opinion in the comments below!

Very cool designs. I would love a whole poster of these to hang in my office! Very cool. I hope they end up using them; they really add to the stylistic and expressionistic nature of the olympic games. Thanks for the post!

I love these designs, especially the Bobsleigh design. In fact, Bobsleigh Tobogganing is one of the oldest winter sports

Curling originated in the 16th century in Scotland, where games were played during the winter on frozen ponds, lochs and marshes
